The old Flinders lane wool store was converted into residential apartments above, with retail at ground and basement levels. The retail areas were designed to meet the economic imperatives of retailing in the Flinders Lane precinct, which determined that smaller clothing retailers needed smaller spaces, which meant less monthly outlay. The smaller tenancies run up the laneways creating a community in themselves, a sense of identity was created with shop fronts and signage and shop fit-outs, creating a local intensity operating within the city itself.
